Slender Vervain is a naturally compact upright Verbena with square stems and violet purple pompom flowerheads all summer, from June to October. Plants grow to a height of 30-50cm and look good planted in drifts. These are great border plants, also good for edging, growing well in containers and suitable for just about any garden. Pollinators love these plants.
Verbena rigida grows best in full sun and moist well-drained soil. It seems to be hardier than its reputation, growing underground rhizomes that typically survive year after year, especially if the crown is mulched over winter. Or the rhizomes can be lifted and stored over winter and replanted in spring. Plants self-seed in favoured locations. These can be grown as annuals in colder gardens as they flower in the first year.
Pack of approx 250 seeds. Sow in spring/summer in a tray of seed compost or sow in autumn/winter in a coldframe, leave outside over winter and seeds start to germinate in the spring. Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.
