Silene dioica / Red Campion / British Wildflower / Seeds

An appealing wildflower often seen in hedgerows and field boundaries.  Red Campion has clusters of pink flowers, appearing over a long period from May to October.  Plants grow to a height of about 60cm and look good in informal and wildflower gardens.

Red Campion grows best in part shade and most well drained soils.  They self seed in the right conditions.

Pack of 1g (approx 1000) seeds.  Sow anytime, typically spring to autumn.  Germination can take up to eight weeks.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Grown in Cornwall.

Hardiness Hardy semi-evergreen annual or short-lived perennial (RHS Hardiness H6)
Flowers May to October
Height 60cm
Spread About 20cm
Conditions  Sun to part shade and most well drained soils
Sow Sow the seeds anytime, typically spring or autumn.  Sow them into a tray of compost and cover lightly with compost.  Keep the tray at 15-20°C and seedlings emerge in 2-4 weeks, sometimes up to 8 weeks.  Pot on and grow until the plants are ready to plant out after the last frost.  Or sow the seeds directly into the ground in spring or autumn.
Grow Plants are short-lived and reproduce mostly from seed. Clear away any plants that have died back in the autumn after flowering.  Plants will self-seed and this can be controlled by removing all or some of the seedheads before they set.
