Satureja hortensis / Summer Savory / Aromatic Culinary Herb / Seeds

Summer Savory is a tasty herb with an appealing peppery flavour. Plants have a bushy form, growing to a height of about 40cm.  They have narrow leaves and small white to pale pink flowers in late summer, typically from July to September.   Summer Savory is grown in the herb garden, and is also an attractive garden plant for Mediterranean style gardens.  Bees love these plants.

The leaves are used fresh or dried, either as a garnish or in cooked food. This herb is often used as an alternative to Sage or Thyme.   Summer Savory is very similar to Winter Savory, a perennial sub-shrub with a stronger flavour and smaller flowers.

Summer Savory grows best in full sun to part shade and well drained soil.  The young leaves and flowers are trimmed and used during summer, and the entire plant removed and dried at the end of the season.

Pack of approx 5000 seeds.  Sow in spring.  Start the seeds indoors in early to mid spring or sow directly into cultivated ground in late spring (April and May).  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the seed packet.
