Rudbeckia hirta 'Marmalade' / Half Hardy Annual / Seeds

A popular variety of Black Eyed Susan with golden yellow flowers and black centres.  Plants grow to a height of 40-50cm and are great in flower borders and containers.  These are good cut flowers.

Rudbeckias grow best in a sunny position and well drained soils.  These are half hardy plants, which flower in the first year and may live on a year or two in warmer gardens, although they are mostly grown each year from seed for the best flowers.

Pack of approx 400 seeds.  Sow in spring and plant out from the end of May after the last frost.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Half hardy annual (RHS Hardiness H3)
Flowers July to the first frost
Height 40-50cm
Spread 20-40cm
Conditions  Sun and well drained soil

Sow in spring on the surface of moist seed compost and keep at 18 to 20°C.  Do not cover the seeds, as light is needed for germination, which takes 7 to 10 days.  Grow on at about 15°C and transplant into pots when the seedlings are big enough to handle.  Plant out into the garden after the last frost.

Grow

Deadhead flowers in the summer.  Remove the plants in autumn or winter after they have flowered.  Sow seeds again in spring.
