Rudbeckia fulgida 'Goldsturm' / Coneflower / Seeds

Every garden should have these!  Rudbeckia ‘Goldsturm’ is an attractive plant, forming clumps of long-lasting golden-yellow flowers with dark centres from mid to late summer. Plants look best in groups, growing to a height of 45-60cm and are good for late summer colour.  They have sturdy stems and do not need staking.  Good cut flowers.

Rudbeckia ‘Goldsturm’ grows best in full sun to part shade and most soils, from sandy to clay.  Plants attract butterflies into the garden.

Pack of 100 seeds.  Sow spring to summer indoors in a tray of seed compost, or sow in autumn in a seed tray with a clear lid, leave outside and seeds start to germinate in the spring.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Hardy herbaceous perennial (RHS Hardiness H7)
Flowers July to September
Height 45 - 60cm
Spread 20 - 50cm
Conditions  Full sun to part shade and most soils

Sow spring and summer in the surface of a tray of seed compost.  Do not cover with compost and do not exclude light.  Keep at around 20°C and germination takes 2-4 weeks.  If there is no germination, move the tray to a fridge for 2-4 weeks and back into the warmth and this should trigger germination.  Or sow in the autumn/winter in a tray with a clear lid, place outside and germination starts in the spring.  Transplant seeds to pots when they big enough to handle and out into the garden when frost free.

Grow

Deadhead flowers in the summer.  Remove dead plant material to just above ground level in autumn or winter. Mature plants form clumps, and these can be divided in spring or autumn every 4 or 5 years to maintain good flowering.
