Phlomis is a decorative upright plant with tall spikes of dark purple stems with whorls of lilac flowers in June and July. These are great border plants, growing well in the middle to back of a border in groups. They are well suited to dry or Mediterranean gardens. Plants grow to a height of about 100cm when in flower and are loved by bees. These are good cut and dried flowers.
Jerusalem Sage grows best in full sun and well drained soil. The plants die back in winter, but the dried material looks great in the frost, and can be cleared away in spring when the plants start to re-grow. They are drought tolerant once established and also grow well in coastal gardens.
Pack of 30 seeds. Sow the seeds over winter into early spring in an unheated greenhouse or coldframe, and seeds germinate irregularly over several months. Or sow indoors in spring. Germination is erratic, so sow more than you need. Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.
