Gazania rigens 'Sunshine Mixed' / Half hardy annual / Seeds

A sparkling mix of Gazanias, with large flowers in a mix of colours from June to the first frost.  Plants grow to a height 25-30cm and are great for edging, front of borders and pots.  They are drought tolerant once established, making them well suited to growing in containers. Flowers open in the sunshine. Great hot colours for later in the summer.

Gazanias grow best in full sun and well drained soil. They live more than one season if protected from frosts overwinter.  Many grow as annuals as they flower quickly from seed.

Pack of 50 seeds.  Sow in spring for same-year flowering.   Or sow into summer and early autumn for next year flowering, protecting the young plants from frost and planting out in late spring.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Half hardy evergreen perennial, often grown as an annual
Flowers June/July to October
Height 25 - 30cm
Spread 15 - 20cm
Conditions  Full sun and well drained soils
Sow

Sow in spring for same year flowering and summer/autumn for next year flowering.

Sow in a tray or cells of seed compost and keep at 15-20°C.  Germination takes 2-3 weeks.  Plant out in spring after the last frost, in a sunny spot.  Protect summer/autumn seedlings over winter from frost, before planting out in spring.  Deadhead to prolong flowering.   Bring potted plants indoors in winter to continue flowering.

Grow Plants grow in the spring, flower in summer and then die in winter if exposed to prolonged frost.  If protected over winter, plants can survive for many years.  Plants are generally untroubled by pests.  Flowers open in the sun.
