Sweet Woodruff makes excellent ground cover. It has star-shaped fragrant leaves and small decorative white flowers from April to June/July. It spreads naturally into an attractive mat of leaves and flowers, growing to a height of 20-30cm.
Sweet Woodruff grows well in full to part shade and rich soil. Although preferring moist soil, it will tolerate dry shade beneath trees, for example.
This is a widely used culinary and traditional medicinal herb.
