Dorotheanthus bellidiformis 'Gelato Mixed' / Livingstone Daisy / Seeds

Dorotheanthus (formerly Mesembryanthemum) is a low spreading plant with a mass of brightly coloured daisy-like flowers from June to August.  Flowers open in the sun during the day, and they look good in borders, as ground cover, in rockeries, dry banks and containers.  They trail nicely over walls.  Flowers are long-lasting on the plant and make good dried flowers.


Livingstone Daisies are good water-wise plants, tolerating drought and dry soils once settled in.  They grow best in the sun and well-drained soil.  

 

Pack of approx 1000 small seeds.  Sow in winter/spring.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Sow

Sow in winter/spring in a tray of seed compost.  Press the seeds gently into the surface of the soil and do not cover with compost.   Cover with a plastic lid or bag until germination and do not exclude light, which helps germination.  Keep the tray at 15-20°C and germination takes 2-3 weeks.  Transplant the seedlings into small pots when they are big enough to handle and do not overwater.  Plant out after the last frost after hardening off.
Grow Grow in a sunny and well drained situation.  These succulent plants need little attention once settled in.  During the summer, trim off spent flowers to keep the plant tidy and to encourage more flowers.  Remove the plants in the autumn once they have finished flowering or are killed by the frost.
