Digitalis lanata Café Crème / Foxglove Café Crème / Seeds

A lovely and unusual Foxglove with pearly grey flowers from June to September.  These plants grow to about 60cm in flower and sit on a rosette of evergreen dark green leaves. They make good sturdy stems for cut flowers.

Digitalis Café Crème prefers sun and well drained soil. It will however tolerate a well drained shady site.

Pack of approx 100 seeds.  Sow in winter/early spring for first year flowers, or sow in spring and summer for next year flowering.  Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Caution: The plants are toxic if eaten.

See how your seeds are packed.

Hardiness Hardy short-lived perennial
Flowers June to September
Height 60cm
Spread 25 - 30cm
Conditions  Sun to part shade and well-drained soil.
Sow

Sow anytime (typically spring and summer) in a tray of moist seed compost and do not cover as light is needed for germination.  Keep at 15-18°C and seedlings emerge in 1-2 weeks.  Pot on and grow until the plants are ready to plant out after the last frost.   Keep autumn/winter sowings in a cold frame or greenhouse before planting out in spring.

Grow Plants form a rosette of leaves in the first season and grow flower stalks in the second season. Cut back the flower stalks later in summer once they have died back.  A rosette of evergreen leaves remain over winter and the plants should flower for another two to three seasons.  They often self-seed, but not necessarily in the same flower colour.
