Agastache rugosa ‘Liquorice Blue’ / Anise Hyssop / Seeds

A good border plant, with clumps of tall lavender-blue flowers from July to September.  Plants grow to a height of 60-70 cm and attract butterflies and bees into the garden. The leaves have an attractive liquorice scent when crushed.

Anise Hyssop grows best in full sun to part shade and well-drained soil. Plants need regular water in summer and well-drained soil to survive the winter.

Pack of approx 100 small seeds. Sow in spring and summer. Can we sown as an annual, in which case, sow by March for same year flowering from August. Sowing instructions and a colour photo are printed on the packet.

Hardiness Hardy perennial (RHS Hardiness H4, hardy to about -10°C)
Flowers July to September
Height 60-70cm
Spread 50-60cm
Conditions  Plant out in full sun to part shade and well-drained soil
Sow Sow in a tray of soil compost, with a very light covering of compost or vermiculite.   Do not exclude light, which helps germination. Keep at 15-20°C and germination starts in about 2 weeks and takes up to 3 months.  Pot on when seedlings are big enough to handle and plant out after the last frost into sun or part shade and well-drained soil.  Deadhead to prolong flowering.  Sow by March for 1st year flowering from August.
Grow Early sowings flower in the first season, others flower in the second season.  These are just-hardy plants and they need well-drained soil to survive winter.  Protect young shoots from hard frosts in spring.   The leaves and flowers die down in winter, when the dead material can be cleared away, and they start growing again in spring.
